Character Counts

The Jefferson Basketball Association (JBA) will be implementing the point system to make all coaches, players, parents, and spectators aware of the penalties of any unsportsmanlike conduct at all JBA sponsored activities.The point system will work on a scale from 1-10, with 1 being the least severe to 10 being the most severe. Character counts reserves the right to review any and all incidents that may be brought before the board. A total of 10 points will equal a minimum of a 1 game suspension. Please keep in mind the welfare of our children is everyone's responsibility. Any character counts complaints should be emailed to the character chair for review.

 

Spectators/Fans including Parents of Players

  • Profanity= 5 points
  • Parents going on the floor at any time during a game = 10 points
  • Heckling the ref, coach, or players = 5 points (no use of profanity or continually questioning calls that are made)
  • Approaching the ref after the game= 10 points ( Parents should be reminded that any concerns should be addressed with their child's coach in a respectful manner)

Players

  • Profanity= 4 points
  • Flagrant fouls= 10 points
  • Abusive language towards referees and/or opposing coaches=5 points
  • Approaching the ref after the game= 10 points

Coaches

  • Profanity= 5 points
  • Heckling the refs = 4 points
  • Approaching the refs= 10 points ( Only if in an aggressive manner)

 

The JBA expects all players and family members to abide by the JBA objectives of good sportsmanship, teamwork, honesty and clean fun, all in a safe and secure environment.  JBA will adhere to the principals of Character Counts.

The following are the Six Pillars of Character Counts. In the JBA, we value these principles for all involved, including but not limited to Children of the Program, Parents, Siblings and all Spectators at our events. We ask that you please review and abide by the following with a goal of a successful youth sports program. The JBA is also asking that adherence applies in all situations related to the league, including but not limited to games, practices, JBA events and any forms of communication including Social Media. Failure to comply is subject to penalties as determined by the JBA Board, including partial to full suspension from the program.  Below we ask that both the Child of the program and the Parent/Sponsor review and abide by the Six Pillars of Character Counts.

Trustworthiness: Be honest • Don’t deceive, cheat, or steal • Be reliable — do what you say you’ll do • Have the courage to do the right thing • Build a good reputation • Be loyal — stand by your family, friends, and country

Respect: Treat others with respect; follow the Golden Rule • Be tolerant and accepting of differences • Use good manners, not bad language • Be considerate of the feelings of others • Don’t threaten, hit or hurt anyone • Deal peacefully with anger, insults, and disagreements

Responsibility: Do what you are supposed to do • Plan ahead • Persevere: keep on trying! • Always do your best • Use self-control • Be self-disciplined • Think before you act — consider the consequences • Be accountable for your words, actions, and attitudes • Set a good example for others

Fairness: Play by the rules • Take turns and share • Be open-minded; listen to others • Don’t take advantage of others • Don’t blame others carelessly • Treat all people fairly

Caring: Be kind • Be compassionate and show you care • Express gratitude • Forgive others • Help people in need

Citizenship: Do your share to make your school and community better • Cooperate • Get involved in community affairs • Stay informed; vote • Be a good neighbor • Obey laws and rules • Respect authority • Protect the environment • Volunteer
